The article examines the current trends in the development of the gender paradigm through the prism of ensuring the rights of women servicemembers . It has been established that Ukrainian soci-ety and the state have found themselves at the forefront of further transformations of many security concepts common to democratic and law-based states. Scholars and practitioners are working to address specific problems and current challenges, seeking ways for further development and con-figuring the system of ensuring gender rights in general, and those of women servicemembers in particular.
The purpose of the article is to summarize general trends in the development of the gender paradigm, identify problematic aspects of ensuring the rights of women servicemembers in Ukraine in the context of ongoing reforms, and determine promising directions for scientific research that will contribute to enhancing the effectiveness of social guarantees and the system of protecting the rights of women serving in the Armed Forces.
In Ukraine, there have been notable positive changes regarding gender stereotypes, manifested in the growing support for the idea of equality between women and men in the security and defense sector. The authors substantiate the increasing role of women in the military sphere, which requires changing stereotypes and eliminating everyday and systemic barriers to career choice and advance-ment in the army. It is emphasized that ensuring equal opportunities for women servicemembers is an important step toward building a just society and state. Achieving gender equality in the military is one of the prerequisites for Ukraine’s integration into international security structures.
The foreign experience of implementing compulsory military service for women has been an-alyzed. Two main directions of research have been identified: first, the use of instruments aimed at introducing quotas for managerial (administrative) positions, and second, the implementation of instruments for setting quotas for the overall number of women in certain categories of positions.
In the conclusions , further relevant areas of work are substantiated – moderating public dis-course, engaging scientific potential to improve the gender approach with consideration of the sec-toral characteristics of the security and defense spheres and the tasks facing Ukrainian society, as well as enhancing communication mechanisms.
